Why we start with cups
Cups lift the skin and the tight muscle underneath: the opposite of pressing down.
On the shoulders we leave static cups around the shoulder blades and glide moving cups along the upper back.
Most people say the area feels looser and moves more easily afterwards. That makes the release, movement and stretching that follow work better.
It isn't a quick fix, and results vary from person to person.

Had a great experience at Twelve Meridian for back and shoulder Pain. The therapist conducted a proper assessment before starting the session. The combination of Back cupping and IASTM gave me immediate relief from stiffness and deep muscle tension. Felt light, relaxed, and pain-free right after. Professional therapist and a very comfortable environment. Will definitely be coming back. Highly recommended.
See a doctor first if…
- The pain started with a fall, an accident or a sudden pop.
- You have numbness, tingling or weakness spreading into your arm or leg.
- You notice changes in bladder or bowel control.
- You feel unwell, with a fever, weight loss you can't explain, or pain that's worse at night and doesn't ease.
- A doctor has told you to avoid hands-on work or exercise.
Questions before you book
Does cupping help tight shoulders?
Many people with tight shoulders and knots between the shoulder blades say the area feels looser and moves more easily after a session. Research on cupping is still limited, so every session also includes release, movement and stretching. Results vary from person to person.
Will I have marks on my shoulders?
Usually, yes. Cupping leaves round marks, from pink to dark red or purple, that fade in about 3–7 days. On the shoulders and upper back they're usually covered by a T-shirt. If you have an event or a wedding coming up, tell us when you book and we'll plan around it.
How soon will I feel a difference?
Some people feel looser straight after the first session. Pain that has built up over months usually takes more than one. We'll give you an honest view after your first visit. Results vary from person to person.
Can I train or go to work straight after?
Yes, you can go straight back to work. Light training is usually fine; we may suggest going lighter on your shoulders for a day.
