Frequently asked questions
Questions about cupping, pain relief and your session
Straight answers to what people ask before they book. Can't find yours? Call or WhatsApp us.
Cupping
Does cupping hurt?
It feels like a strong pulling or stretching sensation. Most people find it relieving rather than painful, and we adjust the suction to what you're comfortable with.
Will it leave marks?
Usually, yes. Cupping leaves round marks, from pink to dark red or purple, that fade within a few days to a week. If you have a match, event or wedding coming up, tell us and we'll plan around it.
Is this hijama?
No. Hijama is wet cupping, with small cuts. We only do dry cupping: no needles, no cuts, no blood.
How long do the cups stay on?
Usually a few minutes in one spot. With moving cupping we glide the cup along the muscle instead. It's one part of a 30–60 minute session.
Is there evidence for cupping?
Research on cupping is still limited, and everyone responds differently. That's one reason we never rely on cups alone: every session also includes release, movement and stretching, and we'll give you an honest view after your first visit.
Pain, and when to check with a doctor first
When should I check with a doctor first?
If the pain started with a fall, an accident or a sudden pop; if you have numbness, tingling or weakness spreading into your arm or leg; if you notice changes in bladder or bowel control; or if you feel unwell, with a fever, weight loss you can't explain, or pain that's worse at night and doesn't ease. Also if a doctor has told you to avoid hands-on work or exercise.
Is “cervical” the same as neck pain?
Many people say “cervical” to mean a stiff, sore neck. If what you feel is tightness and stiffness in your neck and the tops of your shoulders, that's what our sessions focus on. If a doctor has given you advice about your neck, follow it first.
Can you help with knee pain?
We work on the tight muscles around the knee. If your knee is swollen or gives way, check with a doctor first.
Your session
Is this a medical service?
No. Twelve Meridian is a wellness centre. Sessions combine cupping, trigger point release, acupressure and guided movement for everyday muscle aches and stiffness. If something sounds like it needs a doctor, we'll say so.
What is trigger point release?
Firm, targeted pressure on the tight knots in a muscle, held until they start to let go, to ease pain and help the area move again. It's close to acupressure, which works on set points with steadier, gentler pressure; most sessions use both.
Who does the sessions?
Sonia Bansal, our lead practitioner. She sees every client herself, from the first chat to your take-home routine.
How many sessions will I need?
Some people feel a clear difference after one session. Longer-standing pain usually needs a few. We'll give you an honest view after your first visit.
What should I wear?
Something comfortable you can move in, like your gym clothes. We'll need access to the area we're working on.
Training
Can I train after a session?
Usually, yes. Light training or mobility work the same day is fine, and most people train as normal the next day. We may suggest going lighter on the area we worked on for a day.
When should I book around training?
Many people book after a heavy training block, when a niggle hasn't settled in a week or two, or a few days before an event so any marks and soreness have time to fade.
My trainer suggested cupping. What should I tell you?
Tell us what training you do, when your next session or event is, and where it feels tight. We'll plan the session around your training.
Booking and paying
Do I need to book ahead?
It's best to call or WhatsApp before you come, so we can keep a slot free and you don't have to wait.
What do I pay, and how?
Sessions start from ₹599. Packs of 4 and 8 sessions cost less per session. We'll confirm the price before your session starts.
When isn't cupping right for me?
Being honest about this matters more to us than making a booking.
Tell us first, or see a doctor first
