Fat loss and weight loss are the two terms which are used interchangeably quite often. But these are a whole different words.

Fat is a reservoir for the body. Just like a dam which stores the access of water. Similarly, extra calories that we eat and not needed by the body, are stored in the form of fat in the adipose tissues.

In humans, adipose tissue is located: beneath the skin (subcutaneous fat), around internal organs (visceral fat), in bone marrow (yellow bone marrow), intermuscular (Muscular system) and in the breast (breast tissue).

Adipose tissue is found in specific locations, which are referred to as adipose depots. Adipose tissues is vital organ of the body which insulates different body parts which protects them.

The two majorly visible fats are visceral fat and subcutaneous fat.

Visceral Fat

It is the fat located around organs and other body parts. Its found beneath the abdominal muscles, giving it a study and hard appearance.

This type of fat pose major health issues, like diabetes, heart risks. Men are more likely to have fat stored in the abdomen due to sex hormone differences

Female sex hormone causes fat to be stored in the buttocks, thighs, and hips in women.

When women reach menopause and the estrogen produced by the ovaries declines, fat migrates from the buttocks, hips and thighs to the waist;later fat is stored in the abdomen.

Subcutaneous fat

The remaining squishy or jiggly fat is the subcutaneous fat. It has this appearance because it not found under the muscles, which gives it a loose look, as there is no muscle to hold upon.

Most of the time this type of fat doesn’t cause health issues, in fact studies have found that subcutaneous fat protects the body.

Visceral fat is the fat that one looses first while his weight loss journey. This kind of fat has more blood flow, due to this, all the fat that gets broken down, passes in the blood stream and gets utilised.

On the other hand subcutaneous fat might be hard to loose by just nutrition. It requires some extra efforts as the blood flow in this type of fat is not high and so the fat isn’t utilised to that extent. This is the reason why some body parts feels warmer than others.
